TV star Mayim Bialik announces divorce in blog

Massachusetts residents may have read that earlier this month the 36-year old “The Big Bang Theory” actress Mayim Bialik announced that she will be divorcing her husband of nine years. She released her statement via a parenting blog to which she regularly contributes, wanting to break the news herself rather than see it become tabloid fodder.

Her statement was rather detailed and expressed the desire of both parents to remain committed parents to their two sons, ages seven and four. Her message seemed to announce that she is open and inviting to the idea of splitting child custody with her spouse. “The main priority for us now is to make the transition to two loving homes as smooth and painless as possible. Our sons deserve parents committed to their growth and health and that’s what we are focusing on,” wrote Bialik.

Child custody can be one of the most emotional and difficult aspects of going through a divorce. When two attached parents find themselves having to split cherished time with an ex-spouse, the result can be anger or resentment, which is why parents should work together whenever possible to come up with a fair child custody arrangement that works for everyone.

While one parent is often given primary residential custody, the other parent, absent a valid reason, is still entitled to at least a reasonable amount of time with the children. However, a judge may order one of many different custody arrangements depending on the situation and the parents’ wishes.

Divorce can be tough, but protecting the right to child custody is first and foremost in most parents’ minds. An experienced family law attorney can help Bostonians ensure that child custody arrangements work for the best interests of the children involved.
